Sergio Scabar 1946–2019

Sergio Scabar began his interest in photography in 1964. From 1966 to 1974, he participated in national and international competitions, using photography primarily for narrative and reportage purposes.

Subsequently, in the 1980s, his work underwent a substantial shift: the human figure disapeared from his works and his interest focused on nature, sublimating the material and conceptual aspects. A turning point in Scabar’s career was his 1996 project Il Teatro delle cose, which marked the beginning of an alchemical printing process using silver salts to produce unique pieces.

This self-taught photographer was clearly inspired by Morandi, and worked endlessly on series of rearranged objects which he presented as unique prints in their personal artist made frame.

Scabar has exhibited in numerous private galleries and various institutions in Italy and abroad. In 2019, he presented his work in a retrospective exhibition entitled Oscura Camera (1969–2018) at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein, home of the Regional Museums of Gorizia.

Now on view at the gallery: ANOTHER WIG: Virginia Ariu, Xenia Bond, COBRA , Maria Cozma, Sofia Duchovny, Ignatz Freer, Carrie McGrath, Charly Mirambeau, Vincenzo Ottino, Matthieu Palud, James Sturkey, Xtina Vargas, Curated by Antonia Lia Orsi, till 15.05.2026
