The Corkin Gallery presented vintage photographs of Brassai, Kertesz, Moholy-Nagy, Magaret Bourke-White, Walker Evans, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Thaddeus Holownia’s work on the American philosopher Henry David Thoreau.
Environmentalist Thaddeus Holownia embarked on a two year exploration of Walden Pond mirroring the time American philosopher Henry David Thoreau spent at what is now a famous retreat. Funded by a Fulbright Fellowship, Holownia began his homage to the naturalist, who lived from 1845-47 in a one-room cabin he built on Walden Pond, near Concord Massachusetts.
Walden Pond Revisited installation of 24 tree studies is remarkable for the powerful awe of nature and ability to capture the less obvious effects of time and man upon this revered site. Over the past century, thousands have made this pilgrimage to find spirituality in the natural world. Holownia with his view camera knowingly captured the trees at Walden Pond as a reflection of humankind.
