Arles 2019 : Colette Pourroy

Preview

“Red was her color – family saga 3”. It is the title of the new series of Colette Pourroy (the third part of the family saga on her mother) selected to be exhibited at the Arles Huit Galerie, on the occasion of the release of her book published by André Frère Éditions.

“ For Colette Pourroy, introspection and artistic exploration are intimately connected. Over time her personal writing has come to impose itself as an author’s statement where photography is the true language for reproducing the real just as much as the imagined.

The shadow of the absent father that traverses the first series, the fear and phantoms that surface from the series on her sister, all give way here, to an omnipresent yet evanescent sense of mystery and fascination for the female figure of a mother. This mother who so loved the color red. Her daughter has chosen to translate this in black and white.

Colette Pourroy continues her inner voyage, overturns memories, breaks taboos and repairs… Over the course of this journey, her singular, spellbinding writing affirms itself as her magic renders visible the invisible.
