The Galerie du Magasin de Jouets in Arles is presenting a collective exhibition entitled ASEAN throughout the summer. It is made up of work from nine international photographers all showing photos taking South East Asia as their subject.
“Since 2006, I have been visiting South East Asia on a regular basis, in search of artists and photographers and this exhibition has been programmed around those encounters and friendships. ASEAN as an exhibition lies somewhere between poetry and document, an encounter with photos that removes the barrier between magic and rational thought. In South-East Asia, the (re)definition of modernity is far removed from the Western model, which is slowly being eroded.”
