In celebration of the fifth anniversary of the museum’s opening, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, in partnership with gallery East Wing presents Radiant, the first contemporary photographic exhibition by German artist, Antje Hanebeck, who realized a limited edition portfolio of unique helogravure prints.
In 2005, the renowned architect, I.M. Pei, came out of retirement at the age of 88 to design his last major cultural building – The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, Qatar. The images featured in Radiant are an insightful meditation on the physical spaces of MIA. Using an old photo engraving method called photogravure, German photographer, Antje Hanebeck interprets various facets of I.M. Pei’s design through a nostalgic visual experience of atmosphere, light and shadow. The choice of images and presentation reflects MIA’s blend of modern architecture and ancient treasures, shedding light on the many links between the past and the present.
Antje Hanebeck received her Masters degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1988. After working as Assistant Professor at the Department of Photography in the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich for several years, Antje Hanebeck returned to developing her own personal photographic projects, which have been exhibited throughout Europe and in Japan. The artist currently lives in Munich.
