For two reasons.
1. There is no leader.
Everything happens on the internet, and the app “telegram”, the messages are erased immediately after reading them, because of the fear of electronic surveillance.
2. They all wear a mask. This mask is normally a courtesy mask to not transmit microbes to others.
Here it is to not be recognized.
They are afraid of facial recognition with AI, afraid of reprisals from China.
They demonstrate to keep their freedom
They are proud to be Hong Kongers.
They are afraid of the future, and the future for them is all-powerful China, which can not be resisted.
They manifest without organisation, it is a spontaneous mostly non-violent generation.
Their power is to go down to the streets and write about their anger.
