Sea of flowers
Since 1991 I take pictures of flowers regularly until today. They are a symbol of life to me. I search for harmony and beauty as an opposition to the agitated world. I try to create photographs to which I would like to return in the evening after a demanding day of hard work. And I hope that others can also float a little above the difficult world while looking at my pictures. I want to show to the world that it is better than it seems to be.
In the large series „sea of flowers“, I photographed flowers submerged under wavy water which creates a painterly appearance. The waves distort the colors. I choose underwater because of a repeating dream in which I am unable to give water to extremely thirsty flowers. In the dream I cannot save them from dying of thirst. So I decided to give them all this water in my photography.
In my latest series of 2023-24 I represent the beauty of narcissistic flowers, they look at themselves in a mirror placed under water.
Often people ask me, when looking at my pictures, if this is painting or photography. Even to me this is kind of a mystery, I see the painterly qualities of my photographs but I am not consciously searching for them.
Three years ago I published „Blossom“, a quintessence of my flower work from the last 25 years.
