On the weekend of October 18 and 19, the Sebastião Salgado “Amazônia” exhibition at Tour & Taxis takes on a special significance. With the COP30 climate conference approaching, to be held in November in Belém, Brazil, the exhibition organizer, Tempora, is partnering with Greenpeace to raise awareness about the crucial environmental issues facing the Amazon rainforest.
During these two days, Greenpeace teams will be present at the exhibition to inform visitors about the threats to the Amazon and the importance of the decisions that will be made at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference.
An interactive photo booth will be set up, allowing visitors to share their own messages in support of environmental protection and to show their support for strong action at COP30.
As part of this event, a portion of the weekend’s ticket sales will be donated to Greenpeace to support its work to protect the Amazon.
For seven years, Sebastião Salgado traveled throughout the Brazilian Amazon, photographing the forest, the rivers, the mountains, and the people who live there. This vast and remote region, where the immense power of nature is felt as rarely anywhere else on the planet, imprinted striking images on the photographer’s lens, most of which are being shown to the public for the first time.
Accompanied by a unique soundscape, a true world symphony conceived by Jean-Michel Jarre, the exhibition also features the voices and testimonies of the indigenous communities photographed.
Conceived and designed by Lélia Wanick Salgado, this immersive exhibition, set in the heart of the Amazon, is an invitation to see, to hear, and to reflect on the future of biodiversity and the role of humanity in the natural world.
