Vanessa Moselle is exhibiting La Vague until September 15 at Alley Gallery Paris. The exhibition is accompanied by this text:
Since ancient times, the swimsuit has been a garment like no other. It has been and still is a standard bearer, a symbol, an accessory that is sometimes minimalist in its most discreet form or completely covering in the appearance of an aquatic wetsuit.
Like all clothing, it primarily fulfills a practical need but on its own, the swimsuit has a multitude of functions: fashion element, protection, sports accessory, highly technical, etc….
He has always been able to adapt and serve the needs of children, adolescents, women, mothers and everyone in their own way.
Benefiting from a social impact without any other comparison, the swimsuit will have marked the eras during sports competitions with Annette Kellermann, Gertrude Ederle or even Alice Milliat, in the cinema with Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe or even Ursula Andress and in fashion with Coco Chanel, Jacques Heim and Louis Réard. These are just a few examples as there is so much to say about the history of this little item of clothing.
From the Bikini to the burkini, including the monokini, trikini, tankini or even the facekini, there is a whole world. Ideologies, technology, creators, designers who aim to satisfy one and the same person: THE WOMAN. The trendy woman, the sporty woman, the competitive woman, the femme fatale, the discreet woman, the romantic, classic, artistic, elegant, glamorous, natural woman.
The woman is the central element of Vanessa Moselle’s work. She is her muse, her inspiration, her struggle and her motivation which she expresses through her photographic art.
In her exhibition “La Vague” taken from her series “Les Baigneuses”, Vanessa Moselle immerses us in the History of swimsuits.
