Allan Tannenbaum served as the Chief Photographer and Photo Editor of the SoHo Weekly News from its founding in 1973 until the iconic NYC paper folded in 1982. His comprehensive photographic coverage of the art, music, fashion, entertainment, political, and nightlife scenes in New York City during those years is quite exceptional. Tannenbaum was invited to the April 26, 1977 opening of Studio 54 and was a fixture at the club from then on, camera in hand, documenting the merry-go-round of sex, drugs and dancing. This portfolio serves as a unique record of Studio 54, its atmosphere, its energy, its famous and not-so famous denizens, and its cultural and historical importance. It is again available in a new book published by Rizzoli and simply entitled Studio 54.
