Akaa 2020, my choices by Thierry Maindrault
The very young conceptual photographer Alida Rodrigues was born in Angola. She currently lives and works in England, where she did her graduate studies in Art at the University of London.
She continues to work on identity, memory, the role and limits of the image for the manipulation and impoverishment of cultures.
Her graphic creations built with photographs that she tries to re-identify remain centered on the different visions of the history of her African origins. This work is interesting and it cannot leave indifferent even though it generates many questions both by its original form and for the background hidden behind a sort of double image.
The gallery “This is Not a White Cube (TINAWC)” of Luanda helped me with its knowledge and new interest for the Angolan photographic environment and its Diaspora, which it actively supports.
