À rebrousse-temps, freely inspired by the autobiographical work of Birago Diop (Présence Africaine), reflects on time and its impact. The artists participate in defining the time which builds our history, marked by the imprint of the past and in the search for a fair balance in the order of things to find the cycle of “an eternal budding” (John S. Mbiti African religions and philosophies, CLE editions).
After the experience of stretched, suspended time, we will have learned to appreciate the true value of things, beings and the environment around us. Will the self-inflicted race for time become obsolete? Will our relationship with the world regain this equilibrium in “the time we need”? (Souleymane Bachir Diagne, L’encre des savants, Présence Africaine)
Five round tables and the edition of an art book will guide us through the representations of time that artists evoke in their works.
