In 1923 Tina Modotti and Edward Weston moved together from California to Mexico City and, from the start, Modotti became a perceptive student. Some of Weston’s earliest Mexican images, many of them architectural, revealed his developing interest in the inherent geometry of otherwise ordinary objects and structures. This aesthetic would inspire Modotti, so evident in this formal, architectural study of shape and form, on view at Michael Shapiro Photographs, Westport, CT.
