In Quest of Humanity

On November 13, 2015, on the eve of his thirtieth birthday, Adrien Nguyen was seriously injured in the Paris attacks. A few months later, he set off to criss-cross Southeast Asia with his camera, embarking on a journey of initiation of unsuspected dimensions.

But it all began in Mexico in 2010, when Adrien unearthed his first film cameras. He decided to immortalize every encounter along the way by taking a single snapshot, which he only discovered later on his return. What he loves above all is traveling and discovering new cultures, photography being for him a formidable means of telling the world’s story and bearing witness to the new territories he surveys.

This process accelerated in 2015. Wounded by a bullet during the Paris attacks, Adrien refuses to shut himself away in fear and animosity, and dreams of continuing to open up to the world. Despite the physical and psychological upheavals he now has to cope with, the following year he travels to Southeast Asia to recharge his batteries. During this trip, he used his camera as a pretext to get closer to others: by seeking to capture the beauty of each individual in its most authentic form and without any distinction, he found in the emotion of these everyday encounters a strategy for overcoming his wounds, but also a way of transcending barriers by plunging into the heart of humanity.

Faces, gestures, expressions, postures… These are the images collected across the continents that the photographer now explores relentlessly, tirelessly pursuing his quest. Seeking to instill a sense of tolerance and brotherhood in the viewer, Adrien Nguyen proposes a journey without borders, where each portrait is an invitation to embrace diversity and look beyond prejudice to recognize our own humanity in that of others.
