This year’s edition of the Bienal, guided by the curatorial team of Diane Lima, Grada Kilomba, Hélio Menezes, and Manuel Borja-Villel, is set to be a landmark in its 70-year history. Titled choreographies of the impossible, it will offer a line-up of 121 participants, and an innovative curatorial approach with unconventional artistic narratives and forms, including dance, film, and music. The theme choreographies of the impossible stems from the curatorial collective’s investigation of the “impossibilities” of our times, such as eradicating violence, inequalities, and living in full freedom.
Embracing this challenge, this Bienal edition is focused on decolonisation, reevaluating Western paradigms, including our traditional view of time as linear and progressive, and providing an amplified platform for diverse global diasporas.
