10 Years of Transphotographiques

Preview

The festival Transphotographiques is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Nord[s]: This is the theme of this year’s anniversary edition, chosen by its two curators: Françoise Paviot and Gabriel Bauret. The organization wished to pay tribute to the Northern Region in a large sense, proposing a rich and varied program with around fifty exhibitions scattered around the city of Lille and its surroundings. Considering the fact that the most important photography festivals in France will take place in the southern region of the country, in 2001 the director of the festival Olivier Spillebout, took the opposite direction and created the Transphotographiques in Lille.

This ambitious project was born from his passion for images and his will to present the contemporary photographic creation in the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Throughout the years, many guests of honor have passed through: Willy Ronis had taken part in the first edition in 2001, followed by others like Sabine Weiss, William Klein, Lucien Clergue, Stanley Greene and Joan Fontcuberta; for the 2011 edition it will be on Gabriele Basilico, the Italian photographer, appointed guest of honor of this 10th edition.

The festival is open to all public until June 26th 2011.
