“No driver, no person, will ever be bigger than Formula 1 itself.” – Bernie Ecclestone
Until September 13, the gallery CAMERA WORK presents The Official Formula 1 Opus Exhibition. The exhibition shows a selection of 40 portraits of the greatest legends from the history of Formula 1 – created by the artist Zenon Texeira.
The photographer faced the untouchable legends of Formula 1 with the 20×24 polaroid camera weighing more than 100 kg that brings all at eye level: the artist, the camera and the legend of the sport. In 2006 at the Grand Prix in Silverstone, Zenon Texeira formulated his intention for The Official Formula 1 Opus to maganify the legends of Formula 1 in a series,of tremendously aesthetic portraits that reflect the ultimate power of the personalities. Former Formula 1 World Champions such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Alan Jones, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Jackie Stewart and Sir Jack Brabham (who passed away recently) are among the portrayed legends as well as the heroes of the past 20 years like Fernando Alonso, Mika Häkkinen, Damon Hill, Lewis Hamilton and Jacques Villeneuve. The most successful Formula 1 driver of all time, Michael Schumacher, is celebrated in the exhibition with two portraits.
