South African photographer Zanele Muholi won the 2017 Dazibao Prize. It was the fifth edition of this award given to artists from MOMENT every two years. Like previous winners before, Zanele Muholi will be invited to conceive a book from the collection Les portables. The book will be launched in 2018.
In her work, Zanele Muholi defends “the history and visual culture of the LGBTI community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex)”. Her work is drawn from her own experience, through portraits of acquaintances, such as the performer Miss D’vine and self-portraits.
