A few words written on the walls on Change Square in Sana’a are a reminder that this is the epicenter of the protest movement in Yemen. Since late January 2011, thousands have been demonstrating here every day, calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has held power for 33 years, to step down. Tribal men, students, women, Shia rebels, Southern separatists and social outcasts, in other words people from almost every sector of society, have joined together in unarmed struggle.
Every week there have been clashes, with the death toll increasing as the President continually changes tactics; and he may not leave. But the people of Yemen have not given up.
