“I feel there is something unexplored about women that only a woman can explore,” said American photographer Georgia O’Keeffe in 1925. An exhibition at Staley-Wise Gallery in New York now celebrates prominent women photographers from the fields of documentary and fashion photography. Twelve photographers from the legendary cooperative Magnum Photos are engaged in a visual and thematic dialogue with twelve photographers working globally in the field of editorial and advertising photography. Photographing and moving in different spheres, they have recorded events to highlight disparate subjects such as war, childhood, religion, sexuality and style while celebrating the complexity of a female experience. The exhibition includes pictures by Eve Arnold, Martine Franck, Susan Meiselas, Diana Markosian, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Ellen von Unwerth or Newsha Tavakolian.
