I’m Wendy Marijnissen, a 37 year old photographer from Belgium, based in Antwerp, Belgium.
I’m a documentary photographer working in depth on long term projects hoping to connect and move people.
In Pakistan I worked on childbirth and maternal health issues for 2 years, getting to know the role traditional midwives play, gaining the trust of women and photographing deliveries in hospitals as well as at home. Seeing how the tribal and patriarchal influence affects women’s health care, etc… I hope to show nuance in stories that are often so complex and deserve more then just capturing a quick snapshot.
This resulted in the essay ‘Every woman counts‘.
