Thousands of babies have been born in Brazil with microcephaly, a rare birth defect characterized by an abnormally small head and serious brain damage, caused by the mosquito-borne Zika virus. In mid-2014 an outbreak was reported in Brazil, then spread rapidly across the Americas.
Felipe Dana has documented some of the first families with Zika-affected babies, living in the impoverished Northeast Region of Brazil which is the epicenter of the outbreak.
