This exhibition is a dialogue between two generations of Japanese photographers, Shigeichi Nagano and Koji Onaka. Their images portray a sometimes unknown Japan. Through a picture, as an instrument of social chronicles and a distant inventory, each on their own terms reveal in the end the image of a true Japan, where we find landscapes and characters, and sometimes both.
Born in 1925 in Oita, Shigeichi Nagano is primarily known as a photographer of Tokyo’s urban scenes. Koji Onaka was born in Fukuoka in 1960. He began his career in 1982 as free-lance photographer. His purely self fictional photography springs up from endless wanderings in Japan and abroad.
