Trisha Groves, Face to Faces

Preview

This latest exhibition draws a parallel between celebrity and animal portraits made by the British photographer Trisha Groves in the 1980s and 1990s. A celebrity portraitist, she has also done portraits of dogs and cats, photographed in her studio in the same condition as her human models, because she refuses to photograph animals as such, and because she wants to capture the eyes of her models, which she considers to be essential to her approach to photography. The parallel between the people and the animals, who oftentimes bear an uncanny resemblance to each other, was not something the artist was after to start with. It shows, however, the photographer’s aptitude for conveying the personality of her models.
