With the series I’m Not There, the photojournalist Saman Aghvami became interested in Toronto’s Iranian diaspora. The series consists of portraits taken in people’s’ homes. Aghvami asked his subjects to select an image from their past, which he then projected over them. Family and vacation photos, pictures of homes they loved and left behind. Like daydreams, this work leads viewers to reflect on exile and territory.
Saman Aghvami lives in Toronto. He has worked with the Associated Press, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Seattle Times, The National and USA Today.
