Every year, photographers are invited to present their portfolios during Review Days following the opening weekend. Hailing from around the world, artistic directors, exhibition curators and photo editors sit down with artists, giving them the opportunity to create a professional network and see their works selected for publications and portfolios.
For the 18th edition of the CONTACT Festival, the jury is comprised of sixteen members.
Quebec photojournalist Michel Huneault was given the Portfolio Reviews Exhibition Award for his work La Longue Nuit de Mégantic. Following the train wreck which killed 47 people in this small town, Huneault shot a series of sensitive pictures, mostly at night, to mark these interminable events whose trauma could still be felt during the photographer’s various visits. This ongoing project, enveloping and aesthetically disturbing, will remind viewers of the pain the citizens felt on that dark day.
La Longue Nuit de Mégantic will be exhibited at the CONTACT Gallery in Toronto in 2015. Meanwhile, the work will soon be on display at the Maison de la culture Rosemont in Montreal.
