For Tokyo Photo 2012, the Gallery Hashimoto presents photographer Yamamoto Tadasu. His work is in the collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris as well as other public museums in Japan.
Yamamoto is interested by the structure of the camera . He uses his Deardorff 8×10 and produces beautifully heavy and elegant gelatin silver prints in large format. His pictures are all about nature and include cityscapes . For him, they are part of the surface of the globe. Water is also a theme. It changes its shape and colors affected by gravity and the sun. Even when he photographs the “Imperial Palace” (called Jardin), he never makes it grand, but documents it as is. When we stand in front of the photograph, it gives us an uneasy feeling of void a geographical emptiness and maybe more.
