Today’s Thomas Dorn pictures are currently being presentd by the Markowicz Gallery for Art Basel Miami Beach. “The Yoke” means “the link” in sanskrit.
The Yoke is a photographic interpretation of the art of Yoga. Conceived as a photo book project, Thomas Dorn and Isabelle Derigo play with themes like ego, nature, love, pop and freedom. The images are staged on a spontaneous level, stating every time a link between a posture and its environment – thus the title – “Yoke” designates a harness and, by extension, what unites. In Sanskrit, “yuj” is the root of the word “Yoga”, which means to bind, unite, direct and concentrate one’s attention. Images for the different chapters were taken in India, USA, France and Switzerland. The portfolio shown was shot in the Black Rock Desert during different editions of Burning Man. Thomas Dorn is a Paris based photographer, Isabelle Derigo is a painter, actress and yoga artist living in Geneva.
