A passion for photography, education and the wholehearted belief that the photographic image can be a tool for change are the raison d’être of The Raw Society.
Founded in 2016 in Barcelona, Spain by photographers Jorge Delgado-Ureña and Christelle Enquist, The Raw Society began as a way for its founders to share their love for travel and photography with other like-minded individuals from all over the world. Over the years however, the organisation has organically grown into something much bigger.
Today, The Raw Society is a global organisation dedicated to promoting street, documentary and travel photography via it numerous platforms which include Instagram, YouTube, and Substack as well as its recently launched annual Magazine that goes by the same name and events. It is also an educational platform that enables photographers of all levels to learn and grow and most importantly, it is a world-wide community of over 200 members spread across 30 countries that regularly collaborate and engage with each other and it’s founders via The Raw Society Hub.
Jorge Delgado-Ureña is a photographer and the co-founder of The Raw Society. Originally a commercial and fashion photographer, an assignment in Nepal opened up a whole new world of photography to him and sparked the inspiration to found The Raw Society. As lead mentor of The Raw Society, Deglado-Ureña’s experience as an educator has been key to the successful planning and execution of over 50 workshops since 2016.
He has worked on multiple solo projects while living in Spain. In 2020, he was commissioned by National Geographic of Spain to document the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of this assignment, Delgado-Urena photographed the decontamination work of the Spanish military in Spain. Deglado-Ureña’s photography has been published in numerous national and international magazines including National Geographic, La Vanguardia, Público and Fisheye Magazine and his work has been exhibited in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, USA, and Nepal. In 2019, Delgado-Urena won the National Geographic Travel Photo People’s Choice Award.
