The book The Pioneers of Sport is being published by Éditions de la Martinière with the support of the National Library of France. It is a retrospective view of sport up to the beginning of media coverage. Through 200 photographs from the collections of the agency ROL (18,000 glass plates), this book tells the story of sport from the end of the 18th century to the start of the First World War. We’re going to show you 4 sections from the 11 themes that make up the book and today we’re sharing with you a selection of images from many themes like athletic Variations and Fighters.
