The London Photograph Fair : Special Edition

Preview

The London Photograph Fair, one of the oldest “boutique events” of international vintage photography dealers, has added a higher-end Special Edition to their quarterly calendar, coinciding with the launch of Photo London in May, Offprint (an art book fair held at Tate Modern), Room & Book (an art book fair at the ICA) and Salt & Silver (Tate Britain).

Located at Two Temple Place, inside the impressive Victorian Thames-side mansion built by William Waldorf Astor in 1895, this edition promises to be exceptional. One of London’s finest buildings – rarely open to the public – the stately yet private venue should inspire participating galleries and dealers to bring their best offerings.

Visitors and collectors will appreciate the neo-Gothic architecture and the diversity of vintage material offered by the twenty international exhibitors : from early 1840’s primitive processes to gelatin silver prints from the 1970’s.

The event will be held over two days and is just a short walk away from Somerset House and 15 minutes by foot from Tate Modern.

An added feature to this Special Edition is the participation of the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust, based in the Isle of Wight. Rare photographs, albums and items from their collection will be on display. Talks on the pioneering photographer’s work, life and career, and live demonstrations of her photographic processes, where the public can commission their own wet collodion plat portrait, are also planned during the fair.

The basic 1-time entrance fee is £ 10. A two day pass, which costs £ 25, includes access to the “collector’s preview” : special admission two hours before the event officially opens on Saturday.

Participants in this Special Edition include : 19th Century Rare Books & Photographs (New York, USA), Galerie Daniel Blau (Munich, GER/London, UK), Pablo Butcher (UK) , Linus Carr (UK), Classic Photographics (UK), Daniella Dangoor (London, UK), Joseph Delarue (Paris, FR), Arnaud Delas (Oxford/London, UK), Galerie GADCOLLECTION (Paris, FR), Le Plac’Art (Paris, FR), Christophe Lunn (Paris, FR), Maggs Brothers (London, UK), Richard Meara (UK), Csaba Morocz Photographies (Paris, FR), Daniel Newburg (London, UK), Bernard Quaritch (London, UK), Lisa Tao (London, UK), Adnan Sezer (Paris, FR) and Galerie Verdeau (Paris, FR).

The London Photograph Fair was launched in 1982 as a venue where photograph specialists, bookdealers, collectors and curators buy, sell, and exchange vintage prints, collectible photographic objects, photo books and other resources. The friendly atmosphere and presence of numerous specialists who share a common passion for vintage photography, make this fair as accessible to first time collectors as to those with more seasoned eyes. With prices as low as 50 pounds and reaching into the thousands, owning a print is possible for any photography afficonado.

The London Photograph Fair’s quarterly editions are held in March, May, September and November, at the Bloomsbury Holiday Inn. For more information or to purchase advanced tickets online (There is a £ 1,25 processing fee for single entrance and £ 2,15 fee for the 2 day pass.)
