Last week we presented 27 photos. Today it’s 43. That’s a lot. Is it because I’m thirsty for villainy of all stripes? Or is history speeding up? From what I can tell, history is gaining speed on two fronts: the Ebola virus and the Islamic State, both unbearable. Epidemiologists fear a resurgence and spread of the virus. Many geopoliticians find themselves unable to describe the powerlessness of the Iraqi military, which gave arms and, in some cases, training to the Islamic State. My words are powerless, too, that is, unless photos of these two tragedies are as painful to you as they are to me, and by publishing them, you will, if not take to the streets—and why not?—you will take action, individually, against these events in your daily lives. There’s also Marco Vernaschi’s report from Argentina on GMOs and their agricultural chemistry. Perhaps this week we’ll find the girls kidnapped in Nigeria, or perhaps we’ll learn that the missing students in Mexico are still alive. Perhaps… But only one thing is certain: the Islamic State and Ebola will continue their sinister advance.
