Laly Picon entered EFET with a camera and graduated in 2015 with the desire to see further. Used to portrait and studio work, from series to series she called into question the construction of pictures. Having had fun with the “lifestyle” magazine code, she is looking for another way of living photography, Sensitive, she keeps the memory of those she portrays and leaves us their images to awaken our consciousness.

Why photography?

For me, to photograph is to create.

Your main quality”

Without doubt my capacity to adapt and my sense of humour.

Why is there no B&W in your work?

In these series, I found that there were more matters to explore in colour, a broader emotional palette.

What is the role of a photographer?

The photographer shows things, tells a story, Photography won’t change the world, but it can help to “look things full in the face”, to ask the right questions. I think that an artist has that responsibility.

What would you like or would you have liked to photograph?

The Baltimore riots (2015)

Why are your cities and social spaces always empty?

Perhaps because with the portraits what interests me is my relationship with the individual and in photographing places it’s the relationship with the space.

The meeting that you’re expecting?

I’m open to meetings in a general way. I believe in exchanges between artists, you always have a lot to learn from others.

Your favourite photographer (and photograph)?

If there were only one… I think the first photo that impressed me was by Georges Rousse. A red circle that stands out against an architecture  a modern building between the city and the dump. The colour clashes, this geometric shape is something quite hypnotic.
