The photographs of the Sèvres’ ateliers from the Monumental series by Patrick Tournebœuf take part in the new Cité de la céramique in Sèvres.
The photographer, member of the collective Tendance Floue, has taken an interest in the production spaces in the national factory of Sèvres (Manufacture nationale de Sèvres) in the context of his work on heritage and its identity. After a year and a half, Patrick Tournebœuf surveys the basements, attics, reservoirs and the interstices of the 25 buildings that make up the Cité. His images question the identity of these places through the choices of the radical compositions, showing a conception of space where estheticism converses with geography and history. He also offers his own perception of this XIX century industrial architecture. The images reveal the visible traces of the human activity that is still displayed today: 130 ceramists create every day the porcelain objects following the XVIII centuries techniques.
The exhibition distinguishes itself to Sèvres by its nature: it’s the first incursion of photography in a space normally reserved to ceramists. Two of the works displayed will be part of the national collection of the Cité de la céramique.
The images by Patrick Tournebœuf are also included in the book Monumental published by La Librairie de la Galerie and La Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
