How functions perception in built space and how can spatial experiences be put into images? Questions like these have long occupied Susa TemplinTemplin works with photography and three-dimensional spatial models, a concept that she concretized during her studio fellowship in New York and has since developed further.
“When I went to New York in 1996, digital photography had just become very important, and Photoshop, the computer image processing was already used. In this time I have consciously worked in an analog way and started to reproduce my own view of the world and of photography, either three-dimensionally by hand or sculpturally. I cut up my first photographs, made collages, built models and worked in sculpture. The perception and statements of colours were also important to me, I worked there with colour photography, and then produced very large-format handmade colour photographs.
