The beach is a place where light, form and landscape are simplified into essential shapes. It’s also a place where people generally come to relax and play in the ocean. Curiosity is the primary catalyst to see beyond looking while I attempt to organize reality thru the frame of the camera, studying visual relationships around me. I am interested in the transformation which an image undergoes from the intuitive moment of real time reality to the final printed and framed presentation. It is within this distillation that motivates me to look at the details of my surroundings and encourages me to create new work.

I have been exploring the impact of time and memory and how people remember select aspects of our past experiences. Sometimes the image is not exactly as reality presented itself, familiar yet different. As all photographs are made in the present, they immediately become a document about the past. Sometimes an image does not express my full sensory experience of a place, the people and the activities which are occurring. These images are about trying to find a closer representation of the emotional and subconscious nature of the way I see and remember life at the oceans edge.
