This exhibition is the seventh in the series ‘Starting a Photography Collection. Ten Exhibitions in Ten Weeks’; an ambitious programme of weeklong exhibitions in the run-up to the Photo London fair this May. This specially curated series covers a wide spectrum of photography from the nineteenth century to the present. In recent years Japanese photography has received a cult following. Yoshiro Tatsuki. Gleanings from Snow Country presents little known works by one of its senior figures.
Yoshiro Tatsuki. Gleanings from Snow Country takes its title from one of the classics of Japanese fiction Yasunari Kawabata’s Snow Country which was first published a century ago (1935-37) and reworked in 1972. As with the novel the themes include the elements, nature, love and relationships.
Prices start at £650
« In contemporary Japanese photography publications hold a central place and the lines between advertising and editorial are often extremely fluid. Tatsuki first established himself in 1965 and has published extensively but remains less well known than many of his contemporaries. This makes the present exhibition a welcome chance to learn about one of Japan’s senior figures who remains under appreciated internationally. »
