A rise in human density will lead inexorably to a rise in urban density. Modeled after the large international metropolises, cities fill up and spaces divide to form new living structures.
Structures Urbaines is a series in which I wanted to evoke the problems or organization in urban spaces by bringing to the fore the excesses of architecture and the search for the spectacular. Here architecture is used as raw material in the composition of fanciful new urban landscapes. Decomposition, multiplication of urban patterns, fragmentation of residential zones. The appearance of overcrowded landscapes foretells a kind of dehumanization.
Walking along deserted coasts, face to face with seaside constructions, compositions, decomposition, urban structures. These buildings constructed for the purpose of the multiplication of human presence gives rise to multiple dualities: the confrontation of raw and refined materials, of public and private spaces, of individuals and groups. Each duality becomes apparent through the images of this architecture.
Biography
Benjamin Juhel was born in Normandy in 1984. He earned a diploma from the École des Beaux Arts du Mans in 2005. He became interested in the question of the body, the interior-exterior relationship, and questions of representation. Today he researches living bodies and inhabited spaces, working on misappropriation of different kinds of environment.
