This series of photographs by Siegfried Halus depict nude figures emerging from nighttime darkness in rural landscapes illuminated by hand held flashlight and ambient light sources with lengthy exposures. The Austrian photographer pictured his subjects in diverse environments from Connecticut, to Colorado, New Mexico and California. The images evoke ritual, myth and mysterious ceremony. “I’ve always been interested in issues of human consciousness, gender and myth as a way to understand my place in a complex world where daily existence can often be habitual and sometimes meaningless,” he says. These fascinating images are on view until February 24 at Daniel Cooney Fine Art, in New York.
