This photographer accumulated countless experiences, as others pile up awards, from her training at the Marangoni Foundation Studio in Florence and at Goldsmith College in London, where she acquired her master’s degree in photography. She was assistant to Alex Majoli, a time president of Magnum Photo, after she was member of Danibe Revisited: The Inge Morath Truck Project, she was also manager of Davide Monteleone’s studio, then of Paolo Ventura. Since 2017, she teaches the history of contemporary photography at the IED of Milan.
It is by luck looking for a house that Chiara Fossati discovers this quite atypical neighbourhood in the suburbs of Milan : “Villaggio dei Fiori”. Initially, the district built after the last world war to relocate the victims of the destruction of the war. She integrated perfectly to this neighbourhood in which she immersed herself totally. The author began to build progressively a photographic unit which proves to be much more than a simple testimony or a documentary concerning a place of life and its inhabitants.
Whether we share, or not, the intercommunity bonds and / or marginal symbols present in each of the images, it appears from all this set a desire, almost irresistible, to go there to participate and to testify of the existence material and spiritual of this place. But is not this a merit of photography?
