Photographer Sebastião Salgado, who has been living in France since the 1960s, joined the French “Académie des Beaux-Arts” on Wednesday December 6th, 2017. It is a strong symbol for one who was a political refugee after fleeing the dictatorship of his country, Brazil, and who has traveled the world devoting his life to humankind and the protection of nature. Yann Arthus-Bertrand, also from the Academy, has inducted him. Here is his speech in French. The Eye of the Photography was at the ceremony, in Paris, to report about this particular moment.
