The 2025 Roger Pic Prize was awarded to photojournalist Véronique de Viguerie for her series Afghanistan, No (Wo)man’s Land.
For more than three years, the fundamentalist Taliban have been back in power in Afghanistan. For women, it’s a waking nightmare: education banned, exclusion from public employment, and travel restrictions. Yet, through her photography, Véronique de Viguerie refuses to portray them solely as submissive victims, frozen in the suffering imposed on them by history. Her lens also captures their strength, solidarity, and courage: these women who, despite oppression, continue to fight, organize, and take charge of their destiny, thus defying the way they are too often viewed.
