Dear Normandie
Dear Normandie is the story of a quest for oneself. Returning to the vacation spot of his childhood, Rudolf Rosch goes on a pilgrimage, in search of happy memories, of cherished moments shared with family around Mont-Saint-Michel. In this territory which saw him grow up, where he took his first steps, he returns accompanied by his only film camera, given to him by his grandfather for his 15th birthday. Equipped with films that have expired for more than 30 years, it offers the viewer a quest for the past, a dive into its memory. Fragile, the film has suffered from time, its chemistry has become imprecise: it restores a reality which is no longer quite itself. Reconnecting with the family ritual of Normandy holidays, to the rhythm of an introspective wandering around this place which seems eternal, he questions the impermanence of life, confronting his intimate memory with the force of present time. Producing a series of faded, desaturated images, with tones as soft as they are subtle, Rudolf Rosch invites everyone to experience the universal nostalgia of lost childhood, the harsh ver-tigo of existence which fades in the face of time.
