Swiss photographer Romain Mader won yesterday the Foam Paul Huf Award. The Foam, an abbreviation for Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, is a renown Dutch institution dedicated to photography. Each year, a photographer under thirty-five years wins a $ 20,000 grant and an exhibition at Foam
The jury acclaimed Roman Mader’s series Ektarina, in which he documents a Ukrainian fictional city populated only by women. Conceived as a fantastic and absurd journey, Mader – the character played by the photographer- , searches for love in a universe overwhelmed by “humor and irony” (Foam). The photographer uses humour to address serious concerns: sexual tourism, loneliness, sexual exploitation and love.
