Complementing the Prix Photos selected by Denis Rouvre, artistic director of the 2015 edition of the Rendez-vous Image in Strasbourg, the Prix des Professionnels de l’Image was also given out.
Following an open call for submissions, nearly 50 photographers were selected to participate in the Prix des professionnels de l’image RDV•I. The jury, comprised of 21 professionals, selected Sophie Dupressoir’s series Ulysse.
In this series, Sophie Dupressoir examines some “places of memory” like the landing beaches in Normandy. She photographs them like they were on an immense stage, where relationships are formed between the living and the dead, between collective and individual memory, like ancient tragedies. Passersby, tourists and locals, which Dupressoir was able to capture without staging, are at once the audience and the characters. Whether they are sublime or comical, the cathartic action of the tragedy seems to be ultimately soothing. This work was shot with the constraints of the unity of time and placed borrowed from the tragic form.
