Jacqueline Salmon : In Deo

Twelve diptychs for twelve Indian chieftains who lived in the 19th century on the Alberta plains, bordering the Rocky Mountains. There are twelve successive heavens located beyond these mountains, where the breath of the Great Spirit gives life and takes it away. Because the world was created in twelve days, this number governs the cosmic order. In each of her diptychs, Jacqueline Salmon juxtaposes the image of a rocky wall bearing the name of a chieftain with an image of a dead tree , selected according to the personality of the person to which it is connected.
