The 48-year-old German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans saw his work Freischwimmer # 84 sold for £ 650,000 (about € 681,000). The sale was organized by the Phillips Auctions House on June, 29 in London. This same year, the photographer had already experienced historic sales: nearly 600,000 euros for his work Freischwimmer # 123 at Sotheby’s New York, and about 20 of his works sold between 10,000 and 150,000 dollars during Art Basel.
The artist was also honored by institutions, with an exhibition presenting his political works at the Tate Modern (London), while the Beyeler Foundation devotes a large exhibition to him (until October 1, 2017).
These sales show less of a growing interest in photography than a concentration of purchases by collectors on several renowned contemporary visual artists, using photography as another medium, such as Christian Boltanski, Gerhard Richter, Richard Prince.
