“The Last Request” is a poignant film /photo campaign brought to life by British photographer Rankin, celebrating the legacy of the now late Paola, a courageous individual who confronted the reality of assisted dying laws. Through intimate reflections, Paola invites viewers into her world, shedding light on the complexities surrounding end-of-life decisions.
Paola’s journey, marked by grace and resilience in the face of terminal illness, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of autonomy and choice. Her dissatisfaction with existing laws around assisted dying underscores the need for legislative change to ensure individuals can make informed decisions about their own lives.
Paola was 53 at the time of her death. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and colorectal cancer in 2020. Her persistent advocacy for assisted dying reform and her courageous approach to life touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy continues to inspire meaningful change in society.
Highlighted by Sarah Wootton, CEO at Dignity In Dying, “Paola’s final plea resonates with the growing movement for assisted dying reform in the UK.”
