There are obviously questions that we ask ourselves over time, and that of identity is one of them.
My mother, born in France in 1938 to a Neapolitan father and a French mother, was left “in the country” from an early age, under the care of a violent uncle but a loving aunt. She ran away when she was 16.
I imagined Napoli through her stories, her souvenirs. I had to photograph this fantasized city. In 2015 I travelled there with her. She had never been back.
Born in 1972, Ulrich Lebeuf has been artistic director of the MAP Toulouse Photo Festival since 2014.
Member of the MYOP agency, workshop leader, his work is regularly published in the national and international press. His photographs for more than twenty years were made in the fields of current affairs, places of conflict, of power.
In parallel, he pursues more personal photographic works, where he alternates the photographic processes according to the stories.
