In 2005, Alain Bisotti, communications manager of the association Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche, founded the project Photo d’Hôtel, Photo d’Auteur (Hotel Photo, Artist Photo). I still remember back in 2005 when Alain came to see me with a presentation under his arm and a pot of honey harvested from the beehives on the rooftops of his Parisian hotels. That was nine years ago, and since then over a hundred photographers have participated in this extraordinary project. The idea is simple but beautiful, and wonderfully effective for Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche.
Every month, a photographer is invited to spend the night in a hotel rated by the association and given carte blanche to produce a work of photography. Since 2007, an exhibition of the work has been held and a 3,000€ prize awarded. A jury meets annually to select the winner. The Prix Virginie Clément lets hotel staff honor their own favorites. The exhibition is being held at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff on Paris’s left bank in the 15th arrondissement.
This year, L’Oeil de la Photographie is pleased to be the official media partner of the Prix PHPA. Today’s edition will be devoted entirely to the event.
